Camping Close Under Threat
Camping Close, the lovely grassed area set on the edge of the Granta, could well be lost to all those who use it as a restful recreation area. The Infants School Governers are proposing that at least the North side should be fenced in to be used as an extended play and recreation area and also perhaps the South (river) side as well.
Unfortunately this could also threaten the footpath across the centre of the Close that is part of the “Safer Route to School.”
The Parish Council discussed the matter at their meeting on January 22 and although a vote was not taken, the majority of members present felt that the area should be left as a village amenity.
The Close has been in the ownership of Cambridge County Council for over 40 years and the Parish Council will be looking into the possibility of registering it as a Village Green so it will be kept available for all.
